Reverse Manoeuvre (3A)

How does it work?

The test will last up to 30 minutes

You will need to perform an 'S' shaped reverse into a bay as shown in blue on this diagram. The rear of the bay is marked with a barrier as shown in red at the bottom of the diagram. Your task is to reverse and stop with the most extreme rear of the vehicle positioned somewhere within the black hatched markings in front of the barrier.

You must not allow any of your vehicle tyres to cross the outer yellow lines of the area, or to allow any part of the vehicle beyond the cones marked 'A' and 'A1'. You must also ensure that no parts of your vehicle touch the cones, poles or barrier.

You will only be given one attempt to complete the manoeuvre! You must pass this test before you will be allowed to proceed with your on-road (3B) driving test.

Upon completion you will be given an A5 sized pass certificate. You must take this certificate with you to your on-road (3B) driving test.

Your certificate will be valid for 6 months. If you do not pass your on-road (3B) test before it expires, you will need to book and retake the reverse manoeuvre test.

If you fail the test, you can rebook another immediately, however you must wait at least 24 hours before you can take the test again.

If you lose your certificate you may be charged up to £15 for a replacement.

What to take with you to the test?

You will be required to take your:

photocard driving licence

multiple choice theory test pass certificate

hazard perception test pass certificate

Additionally you will be required to provide the examiner with a driving licence check code. This can be generated free of charge on the Gov.uk website and will allow your examiner to check that you have the correct entitlement to take your test.

Please click the below link to generate your code if you haven't done so already!

If you have lost your certificates then you can contact the DVSA on the following number and request that they email a copy directly to you. Please ensure that you do this as soon as possible, as waiting on hold to get through to the DVSA can take some time and may eat away at your practical training time on the day.
